An announcement I’m excited to share with you
I have some news I’ve been looking forward to sharing with you.
After more than 10 years at BDO Canada, and 35-plus years in public accounting, I am stepping away from BDO to build something I’ve wanted to build for a long time — a practice focused entirely on what I do best, with the people I most love working with, and with my family actively by my side.
Fortunately, this has been an easy decision based on how I want to keep saving the world from tax, one bow tie at a time®, but now on my own terms.
For more than 35 years, my work has been about one thing: helping real estate investors, developers, medical professionals, business owners, and investors keep more of what they’ve earned. Finding the tax strategies that work now, and more importantly in the future. Making sure money is working as hard as the people who earned it.
That doesn’t change.
The next chapter
What does change is this: as of June 30, 2027, my active time at BDO, and my time in public accounting will be done.
Shortly, my days of signing off on tax returns, financial statements, letters to lawyers on planning instructions, and tax elections will be over. I won’t be competing against BDO, or other accounting firms. Instead, I will work exclusively on Saving the world from tax, one bow tie at a time® — the strategy, the tools, the big-picture thinking. I bring a playbook of more than 50 dynamic planning tools to every relationship – tools that many are unfamiliar with, or don’t have the time to apply consistently. And I want to share this insider knowledge.
I work alongside your existing accountants, lawyers, and financial advisors to make sure the plan actually gets executed.
You keep your team. I help make the tax piece of it work harder.
A family business
I’m proud that my daughter, Faith Dube, is part of this next chapter. Faith is an insurance consultant with a deep interest in estate and retirement planning — and for clients where insurance or structured investments is part of the plan, I trust her and her team to get it right. The fact that my daughter and I are building something together gives this next chapter a different kind of meaning. I’m excited to continue working on clients together, for many years to come.
And, of course, I’m not abandoning my love of real estate. I’ll also be working on select real estate projects in a CFO/advisory capacity, where my family and I have an equity position.
Many thanks
For those of you who have been part of my journey — as clients, as colleagues, as readers of my newsletter, and more — thank you. You are the reason this move made sense. I have more to give now than I ever have, and I intend to give it, even more directly.
Thank you to my colleagues at BDO and in different accounting, legal, investment and finance firms, and to those who have already reached out! I look forward to working together with you to help your clients.
And, of course, I am looking forward to continuing to share knowledge online and in person!
A few things worth knowing
- My contact information and web site are where you can find me – www.georgedube.com and george@georgedube.com.
- Office Hours with George continues — monthly, same format, same access.
- The newsletter continues — you’ll hear from me regularly.
- I’ll be working for the next year on succession to ensure my clients are well taken care of at BDO with particular emphasis on shepherding them through tax planning and solidifying relationships with managers. We have lots of time but it will go be quickly, so let’s talk!
- Similarly for community and industry contacts, I want to ensure you’re familiar with BDO contacts who can continue to help with compliance, tax elections and more.
- As a partner at BDO until June 30, 2027, I will be focussing my calls and meetings on current and prospective clients of BDO. After June 30, I plan to continue having a cooperative relationship with BDO, and referring clients and opportunities where appropriate.
For the coming months, I’ll be trying to ensure clients are well supported through this transition. That’s my first priority.
I’ve also included a:
- list of FAQs that I will add to as I get new questions
- a video you can watch with more details
And, the bow tie is still very much part of the deal!
Warm regards,
George Dube, CPA, CA
